Ruaridh Campbell-Lister
Introducing ‘Bathman,’ a captivating sculpture that features a life-sized cement figure reclining in a cast iron bath. Originally perched on a rock in Loch Melfort, it rested on the shores of Arduaine, where nature has begun to reclaim it. This organic growth beautifully aligns with this year's theme of the Neverending Glen, showcasing the forest's ecosystem embracing and enveloping a man-made structure. The bath serves as a symbol of safety, representing a harmonious relationship with the natural world rather than an encroachment.
Ruaridh plans to enrich the piece by incorporating a segment from the Gaelic poem “The Birlinn of ClannRanald,” which has profoundly influenced his work. Mackerel will be casted in cement and placed within the bath. ‘Bathman’ will be located in a part of the burn reminiscent of its original coastal setting, waiting to be discovered by visitors.
