Carlos Herraiz was born in Barcelona in 1995 and moved to Edinburgh to study at Leith School of Art. It was there that a series of concerns and ideas began to emerge about the passage of time, absence and presence, and the trace we leave as humans in our environment. Carlos explored these concepts while studying at the Glasgow School of Art and later at the Barcelona Academy of Art and subsequently completing residencies in Kavala (Greece), Berlin and South Africa. Now he is opening different ways of exploration and play, new material and conceptual processes to continue investigating different ways to connect and feel connected through materials.

In the same way that many animals need to malt to change their skin, the butterfly needs the chrysalis state to be able to carry out the metamorphosis, the process of transformation from larva to butterfly. Carlos Herraiz does the same with hundreds of fabrics he has found and collected over the years.
