The Neverending Glen Soundwalk presents an immersive sound map and mini walking tour designed for exploration at select marked locations within the glen, each possessing unique and often overlooked characteristics. Through these sites, a sonic response will be crafted, audibly amplifying the area from below the surface. These responses are intended to either showcase the notable features of the visual landscape or enhance the existing natural soundscape.
Through this walk, Melissa aims to highlight the glen's inherent calmness, creating a stark contrast with the surrounding auditory landscapes and activities, and enhancing it from its core to create a transformative and deeply connecting listening experience for participants. The soundwalk will reveal the myriad sonic opportunities the glen offers, particularly those that frequently go unnoticed throughout the events weekend.
The sonic responses consist of field recordings made during past visits to the Glen, seamlessly combined with Melissa's compositions to create 1–3-minute looping sound bites. Through the use of the Echoes app, users can access a GPS-triggered sound map designed by the artist, allowing them to listen to the pre-downloaded sound bites while wandering freely beneath the forest canopies on a guided sonic journey.
The experience will culminate in a deep listening meditation at the waterfall one evening during the Kelburn Garden Party. Seen by Melissa as the sonic heart and grounding presence of the glen, this final moment will accentuate the infinite and powerful essence of the glen, guiding participants into the night.
